Listening and learning
September 5, 2008i am an in-depth listener.
hence, i am a learner.
months and months of endless meetings, conversations and familiarity with top management allowed me to view things a little more unconventional. i realized that learning is not confined in reading and actual experience. learning by way of listening is just as important and more often exceptional.
i keep notes of a bunch of wisdom quotes that were carelessly thrown in the air by my bosses. and i find them eternally true and flawlessly straightforward. it pumps up my dreams somehow…and keeps me well grounded.
Here’s some Wisdom Quotes:
You have to be the BEST in everything you do.
Don’t be afraid to take risk. No risk, no gain.
Small risk, small gain. Big risk, more gain.
Do not stagnate. One day you will die in stagnation. (this is my personal favorite…!)
You have knowledge. The art is to fine tune what you already know.
Just let your thoughts out. Re-arrange it later. Express instead of impress.
Aim for continuous improvement. Aim for excellence all the time.
Do not simply presume. Get head on with the details and act on them accordingly.
There are 3 colors in every story: the white, the black, and the gray area.
if you study these words of wisdom carefully, nothing is entirely unique. every once in a while we stumble upon these thoughts in any of our reading materials. we hear them on tv or radio. we come across them in different situations. nothing about excellence or challenge is unique. what makes the quote more valuable is the thought that it came from an extraordinary individual, say, a billionaire businessman who owns a group of companies; or a sportsman who becomes a world champion at a young age.
essentially, the world has the same rules which applies to all individuals. the world has unending wisdom quotations which gets re-phrased one way or another. the challenge is how to apply the particular wisdom quote in our lives and make it their bible verse everyday.
so the next time you hear something noteworthy, listen intently… wisdom might be just around the corner…
